Saline vs. Silicone Gel implants
Most plastic surgeons (and husbands, boy friends, significant others of women who’ve had boob jobs) agree that silicone gel breast implants, in general, tend to feel more natural than saline breast implants.
However, there are great individual differences depending on two factors:
- The amount of breast tissue that exists before the augmentation.
- The size of the implant that is used.
The more natural feel of a silicone gel implant will be much more important to ladies who are thin and fit in an A cup bra before the operation, as they have less breast soft tissue to conceal the implant. The difference will be less noticeable to a patient who was more full-figured and wore a B cup bra before the boob job. On the other hand larger implants show the difference between the silicone gel and saline implants more.
If the goal of breast augmentation surgery is to produce a natural looking breasts, and by that I mean that it matches the rest of a woman’s figure and does not look like surgery (so people don’t immediately say, "I bet she’s had a boob job").
I think that most patients are best served by an implant that matches their frame Saline or silicone gel implants in the right size range for the rest of their figures. When the implant is the right size for the lady she not only looks natural but also her breasts feel natural.
One issue with saline implants is that they tend to have more rippling and on the other hand there’s more danger with silicone implants if they burst or seep.
