Plastic surgery news
- This is positive news and is dear to my heart. About a month ago Formula one ace Felipe Massa, was injured in a freak accident caused by a large metal spring smashing into his helmet at over 100 miles per hour after dropping off fellow Brazilian Brawn driver Rubens Barrichello’s car. The spring hit Felipe’s helmet and cracked his skull. The recent advances in helmet technology stopped much larger damage.
The blow fractured part of Massa’s skull and required the 28 year old Ferrari driver to have surgery to repair the damage. After the surgery, Massa has recovered fully but has been left with a scar on the left side of his face. He has announced that he will have plastic surgery to remove the scar. This is what plastic surgery was designed for originally and cosmetic surgery is a recent (and perhaps not so good) development.
I wish Massa (who lost out by a single point from becoming the 2008 world champion) well and am looking forward to his returning to racing in 2010. - A plastic surgery franchise called Lifestyle Lift® has been ordered to pay $300,000 in penalties and fines to the State of New York following a settlement with the state attorney general’s office.
The settlement comes after accusations that the company posted fake positive reviews on its own website – a practice known as “astroturfing.” The company which is said to have used its employees to create fake personal websites with glowing testimonies about the procedure they had done, neither admitted nor denied guilt in the actual documents of the settlement.
This ongoing case is the first in America to be aimed at this online practice, according to the attorney general’s office. - A woman in Dublin California was recovering following corrective surgery after she attempted to perform plastic surgery on her own face . Her doctor said the tough economy and the easy availability of supplies online has caused an increase in the potentially disfiguring practice.
- BEIJING, June 9, 2009 — Zhang Wenqing, a retired 57-year-old driver, has joined a competition in Tianjin municipality in which the winner will get free plastic surgery. He is enrolled in a face-off with many nervous young men born during the 1990s. The event was sponsored by a plastic surgery clinic in the municipality. He said he has no intention of pursuing a career in the performance industry but was unhappy with his appearance.
- Plastic surgery news from Australia: A north Queensland woman who claims she went into a Cairns cosmetic surgery clinic for a neck lift and came out unable to close her eyes has launched a class action against the surgeon who performed the operation.
- I don’t know to put this under news gossip or joke but anyway in a clinic in Hat Yai, Thailand., you can get a nose job for only $350. Double eyelid surgery at just a little over $250. As I have mentioned in other posts you do not know the cosmetic surgeon’s training or the hospital’s facilities. But if you are a Thai American it’s worth having a look next time you are thinking of visiting the old country.
- Getting injections of botulinum toxin during pregnancy may cause birth defects in unborn children. Doctors in Australia linked a woman’s use of the botulin called Dysport (which is not Botox) to her child being born deaf and blind in 2005. My take when you are pregnant stay away from as many chemicals as possible (alcohol, tobacco, washing stuff like bleach, window cleaner and so on). Any pregnant ladu who takes botox shots knowingly should be shot with a dose of sanity and intelligence.
- Men’s Health magazine recently published a poll examining the popularity of cosmetic surgery among the residents of 100 metropolitan areas across the country. Sacramento, California ranked third in the poll. The Men’s Health study examined regional rates for common plastic surgery procedures, as well as information from plastic surgeons, cosmetic dentists, and patients in order to rank metropolitan areas across the country by the popularity of plastic surgery in those areas. According to the poll, the most commonly performed surgical procedure across the country is breast augmentation; it’s also Sacramento’s most popular procedure. Another procedure that is gaining popularity among Sacramento women in particular is the "mommy makeover ," which combines breast enhancement and body contouring procedures to help women regain their pre-pregnancy bodies. Most mommy makeovers consist of a combination of 2 to 4 separate procedures, usually including liposuction, tummy tuck, breast lift, and/or breast augmentation.

Nobody can make an 80-year-old look like a 20-year-old . You want to make them look like a good 80-year-old.
Women feel more comfortable with a female surgeon. It takes a person who wears a bra to recognize another person’s problems in that area. - Seattle Plastic Surgery Practice Sees Steady Demand for Breast Reconstruction
In tough economic times, plastic surgeons across the country are beginning to see a decline in the demand for elective cosmetic procedures. Breast reconstruction, however, plays an important role in the health and emotional well-being of women with breast cancer and Dr. Wandra Miles continues to see steady demand for the procedure at her plastic surgery practice in Seattle. This agrees with our post "Time to ask for a reduction in breast augmentation"
