There are lots and lots of chemicals in cosmetics. Some are inert, some mainly benign, and a few potentially dangerous.
However, today I wish to talk about allergies. Even the most benign chemicals may cause allergies and just because you have used a cosmetic many times before does not mean that you will not develop it at a later date.
Allergies may start when you may react to something in a cosmetic. You may have itching, redness, rash, sneezing, or wheezing. Allergies may happen the first time you use a product or after you have used it more than once.
It is very important that you read all the relevant instructions and do an allergy test every time before using the product if so instructed. Most hair dye products have very harsh chemicals that you may react to. The instructions say that you should do a skin test for forty eight hours before use.
A friend had used “just for men” five minute hair die many times before thinking that he was not allergic to the dye. As it happened it was a couple of days before a huge party and he used the hair dye without testing it one more time. His gray hair was jet black again, but his scalp looked like the surface of the moon and his face was redder than a radish…
